Vision without action is a daydream. Action without vision is a nightmare. Goals bridge the gap.
Most people at work have mandated goals, targets, SLAs and other measures, externally set for them by others. Most people have the necessary ambition to achieve these goals and successfully deliver on them quarter in – quarter out; even if it means paying a high personal price.
That price can be ‘current crisis – current quarter myopia’; it can be doing the ‘important’ or ‘strategic’ work out of hours – or frustration about not doing what we know we should. The question then is: ‘How can I balance the tactical imperative with the strategic objective without working longer or harder?’
The answer lies in what I call ‘Goal Control’ and it lies at the heart of our Priority Planning programme, which leverages on our ‘Working Smart’ programmes to deliver Results worth talking about.
